“Some beach somewhere, there’s a big umbrella casting shade over an empty chair. Palm trees are growing, warm breezes blowing. I picture myself there, some beach somewhere.”- anonymous
I think that I shall never see
A poem lovely as a tree
A tree whose hungry mouth is prest
Against the earth’s sweet flowing breast;
A tree that looks at God all day,
And lifts her leafy arms to pray;
A tree that may in Summer wear
A nest of robins in her hair;
Upon whose bosom snow has lain;
Who intimately lives with rain.
Poems are made by fools like me,
But only God can make a tree.
—“Trees” by Joyce Kilmer (1886-1918)
AMEN! Thank you bro! :)

A window of opportunity will only present itself once. Ignore it and it will pass. Now, it doesn’t end there. New opportunities will arise. They could be better or worse.
Jhorisa understands this. She always tells me about her finds when she goes thrift shopping. She doesn’t put something back on the rack if it is indeed a good find. She keeps it close until it is paid. She goes thrift shopping regularly like how a student shows up for class. Miss one day, miss one find.
Opportunities are once in a lifetime.

One, two and almost three. Years pass by really quick. What started as a photo dump has now transformed into a coherent way of expressing myself. The journey has been extremely rewarding.
Three long years ago, I met Jhorisa in fashion school. I don’t know why I ever enrolled but it was a dark time for me. I urged my cousin to enroll with me. Back then, even Jho wondered why I was there.
I never officially finished the short courses in school. What I am so thankful for is that one day when I realized that I could have a knack for photography. My classmates who have moved on to advanced courses needed to have their works shot so I volunteered because I had a DSLR. What an excuse. That was the first time I ever shot portraits and clothes. Jho happened to be there.
I started with a curiosity and ended up with this blog. While I am by no means a professional, I like to think of myself as an enlightened amateur. That term is borrowed from Moebius, a comic artist. As I got to know Jho more and more, I found out that we share similar views.
To not care about what others think, to not wait to get picked by the gatekeepers, to not ask for recognition or a prize, to not allow the creative process to be held hostage; these are what define us. It doesn’t matter if fashion is commercial. We choose to look at it as self-expression. If that is not impeded, then bring it on.
“A great way to give thanks for the privileges we’ve got is to do important work.”
Thanks for convincing me to do this Edric! haha Otherwise I would miss a great opportunity. Stay true to your values. Great things are coming your way! :)
